Sarasota Bob: 6 More Cooler Days

Sarasota Bob_-_Flickr_-_Andrea_WestmorelandSarasota, Florida – Reporting from his secret location somewhere on Siesta Key, the gopher tortoise known as “Sarasota Bob” regretfully told reporters that he saw his shadow today. Tradition says that Bob seeing his shadow on Gopher Tortoise Day (observed annually on February 2nd), means 6 more days of cooler weather. Bob apologized for seeing his shadow, but said “There’s nothing for it, the sun’s just bright and clear today”.

While many locals were disappointed at needing to continue wearing sweaters and long pants, a few celebrated the thought of more days in the low 70s. Joe Turnbill, who attended the announcement ceremony, said “This is wonderful, I’ll be able to get more yard work done without getting so sweaty”.
